Color Guard Team
The Color Guard is a group of at least four cadets that present the United States and US Air Force flags (with additional flags sometimes being added, such as the Alabama state flag) at games and ceremonies. Presenting the Colors is a military tradition dating back to the beginning of our country. When performing a Color Guard, these four cadets form a line. The cadets on the end carry rifles, while the middle cadets carry the US flag (on the right) and other flags. Before the event, they present their flags and rifles. After the event, the Color Guard ensures the proper retirement of the Colors. In addition to athletic games, the Color Guard is also used for a variety of official events. These may be such things as a Detachment ceremony, a Veteran’s Day Parade, an address by the Governor, or an Air Force dinner. The opportunities the Color Guard presents are a valuable and rewarding addition to any cadet’s time in AFJROTC.
